The invention relates to a machine reamer which comprises a shaft-like base (10) and a reamer head that axially projects beyond the front of the base and that is configured as a one-piece indexable insert (12). Said indexable insert can be introduced in a front insert seat (14) of the base (10) with an axially projecting, preferably conical shoulder (24) and can be clamped therein by means of a tension rod (44) that extends through the center-axis of the base (10). In order to improve the rotational catch effect between the base (10) and the indexable insert (12), the indexable insert (12) has a central polygonal opening (30) through which the tension rod engages with a complementary polygonal section (32).
