PREVENTION OF COPPER CATHODES FROM TARNISHING.

Application 473/MUM/2003 published 2006-05-05, filed 2003-05-12
Copper Cathodes, treated with inhibitor as soon they are produced, can retain their original color for a long period and can be prevented from getting oxidized, thus perform much better during further melting, casting, rolling and wire drawing operations. The conventional inhibitors like Benzotriazole offer very good protection against corrosion. The layer formed on the surface of copper protects in from atmosphere. Lab scale experiments shows that by dipping cathode in 1-2-3 Benzotriazole at 1% to 2% concentration level at elevated temperature can prevent the copper cathode surface from tarnishing.
