[PROBLEMS] To provide a method of expanding an existing building having a structure where buildings are connected to each other by means of connecting corridors. The method is capable of expanding the existing building upward while it is used, securing sufficient strength of the building, and effectively utilizing empty spaces of the building. [MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEMS] In the method of expanding an existing building having a structure in which buildings are connected to each other by means of connecting corridors, new structures each having an upper story portion that is higher than the existing building by a height equivalent to one or more stories are constructed on both sides of each connecting corridor. The upper story portions of the new structures are connected to each other so as to straddle the connecting corridors.
