A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF VEGETERIAN MEDIUM FOR PRODUCING THERMO TOLERANT B-GALACTOSIDASE ENZYME

Application 158/DEL/2005 published 2006-11-10, filed 2005-01-25
According to the present invention, there is provided a process for the preparation of growth medium for the cultivation of pro-biotic bacteria which can also be utilized for the cultivation of thermostable B Galactosidase by a Lactobacillus sp. of local origin. The ingredients of the medium of the present invention are totally vegetarian thereby appealing to the sentiments of vegetarian population. The vegetarian medium, used for the production of B- Galactosidase enzyme of the present invention, includes the renewable carbon and nitrogen sources such as Soya bean meal (defatted), soy peptone, yeast extract, lactose, sodium acetate, ammonium citrate. The medium of the present invention utilizes soybean meal/soypeptone, which is easily available as by product of edible oil producing industry thereby making the medium cheaper and easy to produce. The medium of the present invention avoids the use of beef extract and protease-peptone and does not need specific addition of expensive and pure/individual amino acids, vitamins and reducing agents for producing the growth and induction of B Galactosidase. The medium is capable of producing thermostabel B Galactosidase at room temperature under non-stirring conditions and thereby not requiring additional energy for facilitating cell bound enzyme production. The stabilization of B Galactosidase occurs due to the presence of antioxidants such as amino acids and low molecular weight peptides released from soybean meal and soy peptone and other medium components.
