This invention relates to a fire retardant, low smoke coating composition. The composition comprises 11.1±1% poly (vinyl acetate), 22.2+2% aluminium trihydroxide, 2.7±0.5% aluminium silicate, 6.7±0.5% antimony trioxide, 4.4±0.5% chlorinated paraffin wax and 52.9±5% water. Further this invention relates to a process for preparation of fire retardant low smoke coating composition. The process comprises resolving aluminium silicate in water. Poly (vinyl acetate) is added thereto under stirring. Aluminium trihydroxide is mixed with said mixture and stirred the same vigourously, and then antimony trioxide having chlorinated paraffin mixed therewith is added to said mixture under stirring to obtain said fire retardant composition.
