A method for preparing Solanesol extraction and purification in high yield and purity, comprising; a) treating parts of Nicotinia tobaccum with an extraction solvent to obtain an extract; b) obtaining a substantially solvent free concentrated extract by heating the extract of step (a); c) solubilizing the extract of step (b) by performing a first step selected from partition in presence of a partition solvent or saponification in presence of a metal hydroxide and an alcohol to obtain enriched solanesol syrup, and d) performing a second step selected from column chromatography in presence of a chromatography solvent or crystallization in presence of a crystallization solvent to obtain one or more fractions of solanesol and optionally performing repeated crystallization of material obtained in step (b), (c) and (d).
