High bulk density chitosan can be prepared by dissolution of chitosan in dilute hydrochloric acid followed by precipitation with dilute sodium hydroxide. The product after washing, drying and pulverizing to below 200-micron particle size has a bulk density of 0.7 to 0.75 g/ml.
