A lubricator for a sewing machine, comprising - a top lubricant box (18) disposed in an operator’s visual range for supply of at least a top lubricating point; - a bottom lubricant box (20) disposed in the base plate (10) of the sewing machine for supply of a bottom lubricating point, in particular a shuttle (22); - a connecting conduit (32) between the top and the bottom lubricant box (18, 20) for transfer of lubricant into the bottom lubricant box (20); characterized in tat the bottom lubricant box (20) contains a float (34) which closes the connecting conduit (32) that proceeds from the top lubricant box upon a given level in the bottom lubricant box.
