RADIO PROTECTIVE HERBAL EXTRACT AND ITS PROCESS THEREOF

The present invention relates to a radio protective extract of rhodiola imbricata and process for preparation of said extract from roots and rhizomes of rhodiola imbricata by stirring the washed, dried roots and rhizomes with aqueous-alcoholic solvent preferably water alcohol (1:1) mixture, filtering the supernatant extract, rinsing the residue with the same solvent, followed by evaporation and lyophilization of combined supernatant extract and rinse to obtain dry powdered extract exhibiting radio protective activity. The invention also relates to a radio protective extract providing survival rate greater than 90% in mice as recorded 30 days after the 10 Gy gamma radiations with Co60 salts.
