Bacopa mannieri is an important medicinal plant species of very high demand both in domestic and international markets due to its unique properties as a cardiac, nerve and brain tonic. It is extensively used in traditional medicinal for curing restlessness, insomnia overactive mind, forgetfulness, confused and cloudy thoughts, anxiety, stress, hysteria, nervous breakdowns and insanity. The plant also substantially improves mental clarity, confidence, intelligence and memory. A novel and efficient in vitro culture technique for rapid production of a large number of viable culture vessels. By adopting this technique 610 viable plantlets have been regenerated in a period of two months with a field survival of 100%. This low cost tissue culture technique is found to be easy to handle, reproducible and cost effective and can be sealed up to commercial level.
