In a transporting apparatus for a spinning machine (10) a traction means (14) is deflected by two drive devices (36, 46) each by about 90º or 180º in which arrangement the drive devices are distanced far apart, preferentially in a head end portion (16) and a foot end portion (18) of the spinning machine (10). Ad- ditionally at both ends of the spinning machine at about the same lengthwise position as the drive devices (36, 46) a deflecting means (36', 46') can be pro- vided. Each drive device is to supply roughly half of the total drive power re- quired in such a manner that the load on the traction means (14) is reduced considerably. This results in a prolonged life of the traction means and in an improved reliability of the transporting apparatus.
