: “A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PROPELLANT COMPOSITION”

Application 2347/DEL/1996 published 2006-05-12, filed 1996-10-29
This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a propellant composition comprising a first step of reacting 26-33% by weight of nitrocellulose with 25-34% by weight of nitro glycerine and 1-2% by weight of carbamite, a second step of desensitising nitroglycerine by adding 6-8% by weight of desensitiser as herein described, dearating said desensitized nitroglycerine under vacuum for preferably 12-20 hours, subjecting the reactants of steps (i) and (iii) to a third step of mixing for 15-25 minutes, adding 20-30% by weight of zirconium metal to the reacting mass of step (iii) and allowing the reaction to continue at a temperature of 20-30oC, controlling the moisture content of spheroidal nitrocellulose to less than 6%, adding an oxidizer such as ammonium perchlorate to the reacting mass, allowing the reacting mass to continue with constant stirring under a running vacuum of 5-10 mass of weight, reacting mass is subjected to casting and then curing.
