VETTATH'S ANASTAMOTIC OBTURATOR.

Application 1037/CHE/2004 published 2006-05-19, filed 2004-10-07
Vettath's Anastamotic Obturator(VAO) is a proximal anastomoses enabling device, used to anastomose the top end of the vein graft on to the aorta during coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. This invention is the result of a detailed research to find an alternative to avoid side clamping the aorta while performing the proximal anastomoses. This device could help to plug the punch hole on the aorta and keep the field clean thereby showing the punch hole clearly and could ensure a safe intima to intima anastomoses. This helps a surgeon to perform the suturing of the proximal vein graft to the aorta. Vettath's Anastamotic Obiturator is a metallic instrument made of solid steel, is 180 mm in length and comes in small and medium sizes, 5 mm and 6 mm in diameter, respectively. The inserting bit has a ridge 25 mm from the end of the V AO. This ridge projects 2 mm from the steel rod, there are three groves in the inserting end that are each 1 mm deep, and these grooves extend up to 15 mm from the inserting end of the obturator.Vettath's Anastamotic Obturator can be used with ease and can definitely avoid the neurologic problems caused by side clamping the aorta.
