An improved method of lyophilizing a Factor VII composition comprising a crystallizable bulking agent selected from the group consisting of mannitol, glycine and alenine and NaC1, wherein said method comprises the steps of: (a) freezing the Factor VII composition at a temperature of less than 350C; (b) annealing the factor VII composition at between-300C and –1900C; (c) lowering the temperature of the Factor VII composition to less than-500C; (d) annealing the Factor VII composition at between- 300C and –390C; and then (e) freeze-drying the Factor VII composition.
