This invention relates to an injectable ready-to-use formulation of THIOPENTAL the chemical name of which is (±)-5-Ethyldihydro-5-(1-methylbutyl)-2-thioxo 4,6(1H, 5H)-Pyrimidinedione and which is used in inducing anaesthesia. The invention utilizes crystalline THIOPENTAL which is dissolved in 2,5-di-O-methyl-1,4:3,6-dianhydro-D-glucitol, which is a biologically acceptable non-toxic solvent, for administration parenterally to mammals including humans.
