Diabetes Mellitus (Madhumeha) is the most common disorder in human beings. In fact, there are serious side toxic effects as a result of prolonged use of conventional allopathic drugs. It is, therefore essential to look for remedies from non-conventional sources. India , a treasure of plants, has wide variety of medicinal plant species, the therapeutic values of which have made history as the textual part of Indian literature. Every plant is believed to possess some medicinal value. So, It was thought to be a viable search area. Novel complex hyper-and hypoglycemic activity in the root of Careya arborea (a tree) has been invented. Root was cleaned, dried and powdered. The experiment was undertaken on albino rats. Aqueous decoction as well as crude sample itself were administered to two groups separately. The crude powder sample showed hyperglycemic effect and the aqueous decoction showed hypoglycemic effect of the sample. Hypoglycemia was not observed in any of the experimental animals under trial.
