SOLID STATE CIRCUIT BREAKER

Application 634/MUM/2004 published 2006-06-16, filed 2004-06-08
The solid state circuit breaker is the result of investigation on modern power semiconductors for use in fast acting circuit breakers. The solid state circuit breaker can be used for the application in distribution as well as transmission system. We have designed a solid-state circuit breaker, which consists of a power electronics device ‘Triac’/for controlling the Triac, the electronic control circuit has been used. When Current Transformer detects the current during abnormal condition, the necessary action is taken by control circuit, which consists of optocoupler and operational amplifiers. The Circuit Breaker has been designed for the distribution system, which has rating of 440 volts, 130 amps (80 amps per phase) and second significant characteristics of circuit breaker is that it detects the overload as well as phase failure condition and provides the indication. It has fast operating time; no maintenance and compact size and hence overcomes the disadvantages of conventional circuit breakers available at present scenario in the market.
