A METHOD OF WELDING ALUMINUM ALLOY FOR OBTAINING HIGHER YIELD STRENGTH.
Application 1136/CHE/2004 published 2006-10-20, filed 2004-11-01
A special process technique related to improving the yield strength of AA2219 alloy-using GT A welding technique was conceptualized. The main attributing factors like Copper Rich Cellular (CRC) structure, partially Molten Zone (PMZ) and a well-defined brittle fusion line were critically analyzed. GT A W DCSP multi-pass welding technique has potential to weaken the above attributes and also capable to grain refine the previous weld runs, which resulted in yield strength of over 200MPa without any post weld heat treatment. Electron Probe Micro Analysis (EPMA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Microscopy, Mechanical property evaluation, X-ray radiography and Micro-hardness survey were taken to support the theoretical base of this invention.
