In this invention we have provided with an alternative process for the preparation of technologically important chiral unsymmetrical dimeric liquid crystalline compounds avoiding the use of commercially available chiral moieties those are generally expensive. We have explored the possibility using the naturally occurring optically compounds such as steroids that are coupled with various phenylacetylenes presence of organic solvent or their mixtures and a coupling catalyst at a temperature in the range of 40 C to 120 C in an inert atmosphere.
