To provide a cam chain lifter system for internal combustion engines in which the cam chain lifter system can be disposed at the optimum position without upsizing the internal combustion engine. In an internal combustion engine comprising a cam chain lifter with an oil lock mechanism, a cam chain lifter 31 for internal combustion engine wherein a cam chain lifter with oil lock mechanism is disposed in the cam chain chamber 9 with a push rod 32 slidably held in a guide cylinder 34 so as to project upward therefrom, and the upper portion of the guide cylinder 34 from which the push rod 32 projects is opened upward to form an oil pit 35 in communication with the hydraulic chamber 46 in the guide cylinder via the interior of the push rod 32.
