This present invention provides a novel multi-bacterial strain herein referred to as microbial consortium deposited with Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigargh having accesssion no MTCC 5169 (Old deposition No. S2-001). The said micro-organisms have been isolated from a sample of formation water of an oil-well located at Sobhasan, Mehasana Gujarat, India and the invention also relates to use of said microbial consortium for in situ application process hither to called MMMAP, by proliferating novel microbial consortium by growing in novel nutrient media I and II thereby enhancing the crude oil recovery from oil wells.
