A process is described to increase efficiency of extraction of 6-acetyl-4, 1’,6’ trichlorogalactosucrose (6-acetyl-TGS) and/or 4,1’, 6’ trichlorogalactosucrose (TGS) from aqueous solution by addition of salt. The invention helps in reducing the quantity of solvent needed for achieving substantial extraction. The invention also leads to extraction of TGS substantially free from polar impurities.
