: “A PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF NANO-PARTICULATE MICA”

Application 1607/del/2004 published 2006-07-28, filed 2004-08-26
This invention relates to preparation of nano-particulate mica from the available mineral. Mica is used extensively as filler for themoplastics such as polypropylene in which it imparts some improvement in mechanical and electrical properties. Nano-particulate fillers are important for such applications. However, there is no prior art for preparation of nano-particulate mica. The conventional methods of making nano-particles is not suitable for mica. The present invention provides a process for preparation of nano-particulate mica which involves a polymerization of such monomers which have large interaction with mica. The process also leads to preparation of nano-particulate mica which can be directly used as filler for plastics without the conventional treatment with coupling agents.
