A rope net for use in boulder rock fall protection made up of a polymeric material such as HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) or Nylon or PP (Polypropylene) or Polyester, having a mesh openings or apertures, the said net of suitable dimensions so to prevent the smallest stone from dislodging from the parent mass, characterized in that the said net having a configuration depending upon the specific gravity of the stone and the specification of the single largest boulder fall, the strength of the said net calculated by taking into account the surface area and contact area of the boulder, the said net being a strand of hawser and the load bearing capacity of the said net being calculated by taking into account the size of the smallest aperture of the net, its suitability to the weather conditions, abrasion and its resistance to ultra-violet radiations.
