A power generation apparatus for generation of electric power from the energy present in waves in an ocean, comprises (a) at least one central platform (Al) located offshore in the ocean ; and a peripheral platform (A4) surrounding it and spaced from it; (b) spaced apart floats (L) located along the inner and outer sides of the peripheral platform and guided in respective guide channels (c) first horizontal shafts (U), each having a pinion (U1) at one end and a large diameter first gear (U2) provided at the other end, the first shafts being located on the top of the peripheral platform at the same spacing as the floats and aligned over them (d) a rack (L2) provided on top of each float, with its teeth being engage able with respective pinions (U 1); (e) a second horizontal shaft (X) extending parallel to each first shaft and provided with a second gear (Xl) of smaller diameter mesh able with the first gear (U2) (f) a compressor (P) connected to a respective second shaft to produce fluid under pressure and connected by pipes to pressure vessels to which a turbine is connected ; and (g) optionally storage tanks for storing the fluid released from the turbine, for reuse by said compressor; said pressure vessels, turbine and storage tanks being mounted on said central platform.
