Xerostomia is a disease caused by the dryness of mouth due to impaired salivary flow. The invention disclosed in these applications relates to a bioadhesive drug delivery system containing parasymphathomimetic agent for the treatment of xerostomia. This bioadhesive drug delivery system useful for the treatment of xerostomia comprises a matrix of hydrophilic polymers containing an parasymphathomimetic agent or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts and compressible pharmaceutically acceptable exepients or their mixtures In addition, the present invention also provides a process for the preparation of the bioadhesive device for the treatment of xerostomia, employing method of granulation and compression.
