A method for manufacturing a composite yarn comprising steps of : a. drafting a coarser strand and a finer strand parallely up to delivery nip of the drafting zone; and b. applying a twist at a distance from the delivery roller nip; such that the finer strand gets higher portion of twist than that of the coarser strand and both the strands are pulled towards each other thereby getting compacted, followed by wrapping finer strand tightly onto the coarser strand forming a compact composite yarn.
