SINGLE PHASE BISMUTH FERRIC OXIDE THIN FILM BY CHEMICAL METHOD

Application 35/MUM/2005 published 2006-08-11, filed 2005-01-14
The present investigation relates to the deposition of single phase, nanocrystalline bismuth ferric oxide thin film onto glass substrate by chemical spray method. This chemical spray method is relatively less expensive and convenient for large area deposition of films, particularly metal oxide films. The deposition rate and film thickness are easily controlled by the preparative parameters such as spray nozzle to substrate distance, substrate temperature, the concentration of the precursor solution and the quantity of the precursor solution sprayed. Single-phase nanocrystalline bismuth ferric oxide film has been prepared by spraying mixture of aqueous solution of bismuth nitrate and ferric nitrate onto non-conducting and conducting (fluorine doped in oxide (FTO) coated) glass substrate, kept at 723 K using air as a carrier gas. The oriented (110), and single-phase bismuth ferric oxide (BiFeO3) thin films of large area (10 cm2) have been deposited. The BiFeO3 films are nanocrystalline with average grain size ~ 100 nm.
