A DOUBLE ACTING PUMP FOR LIFTING GROUND WATER

Application 599/MUM/2003 published 2006-01-20, filed 2003-06-10
An improved device lifting ground water, in particular at remote locations to meet the irrigation requirement, the device comprising: -a lift-water pump having its cylinder portion submerged in the ground water at a depth of at least 150ft, the pump’s piston rod being connected to one end of a rod the other end of said rod being releasably attached to a lever means; an engine or a motor generating between 1500 rpm to 3000 rpm provided at the ground level coupled to a gear box supplying an output of approximately 50 rpm to 100 rpm, a crank coupled to the output shft of the gear box; the lever means mounted on a pedestal having two slots the first slot allowing the crank pin to slide therethrough thereby converting rotary motion of the crank into oscillatory motion of the lever, the pedestal providing a hinge at the center of the lever thereby transferring the oscillatory motion of the lever to the second slot at an opposite end, a pin disposed in the second slot converting the oscillatory motion into a reciprocating movement of the rod which causes the lift-water pump to operate, the improvement is characterized in that; -said lift-water pump is designed as a double acting pump to cause continuous delivery of water; -a balancing meaqns is disposed on one end of the lever to neutralize the weight of the piston assembly and the rod to reduce the load on the generator.
