The invention relates to a method for the production of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (BPA) by reacting acetone and phenol in the presence of cross-linked sulfonated polystyrene resins (ion exchange resins), characterized in that BPA is separated out of the reaction solution after the reaction unit by multi-step vacuum distillation and a one or multi-step layer crystallization process.
