WAXRIM OCCUSAL PLANE ADJUSTER
Application 983/MUM/2005 published 2006-09-08, filed 2005-08-22
The innovative dental instrument, “The Wax Rim Occlusal Plane Adjuster”, relates to precise adjustment of the occlusal plane of maxillary wax rim by more scientific and accurate method in less time. In includes two parts; the plane orientation device (Figure 4) and the plane adjustment guide. In the plane orientation device there are two plates connected with three screws in such a way that they can be oriented in a wide range of parallel and non-parallel relations to record the orientation relation of the unadjusted occlusal plane of the maxillary wax rim to the required reference plane on the patient. This orientation relation is transferred to the second part; the plane adjustment guide in which there is a cast holding clamp attached to a ball and socket assembly engaged onto a sliding slot ramp on the base. The patient’s edentulous maxillary cast is attached to the cast holding clamp and the wax rim is placed over it along with the orientation relation recorded by the plane orientation device. The ball and socket assembly enables to orient the wax rim over the cast with the help of plane orientation device in relation to the vertical plates of plane adjustment guide depicting vertical plane so that the required occlusal plane of the wax rim becomes vertical. There after the whole arrangement including the wax rim over the cast oriented through the ball and socket assembly is slided backward till the predetermined height mark is reached along the front face of the vertical plates. In case the wax rim is deficient in some parts wax is added there. The excess part of the wax rim is now trimmed along the front face of the vertical plates to achieve the occlusal plane at a particular height parallel to the required reference plane on the patient.
