The present invention repots a multistage electrolytic reactor useful for treatment of waste water and the said reactor comprising rigid tank with a plurality of compartments with an open configuration and the said compartment equipped with at least one anode and one cathode comprising of solid rods separated by a minimum gap of 2 mm and positioned in an electrolyze zone and ensuring connection of electrodes to the respective leads of DC power source which can change the polarity of electrodes periodically; vibrator to vibrate electrodes; assembly of perforated tubes connected to a compressor for bubble generation; baffles ensuring flow of effluent from one compartment to another with minimum turbulence; a mechanical arrangement for removal of floating contaminants; system to collect and re-circulate the excess coagulant and the said system having an inlet and outlet for circulation of effluents; plurality of conditioner and accessories for control and monitoring comprising of pumps, valves, geared motors, flow meters and energy meter. Multistage electrolytic reactor equipped with different electrodes works on the principle of precipitation, coagulation, electrolytic decomposition and electro-flotation of pollutants and is useful for the treatment of sewage and drinking water.
