: “AN IMPROVED PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ELECTROLYTIC ZINC POWDER”
Application 416/DEL/2004 published 2006-09-08, filed 2004-03-11
The present invention relates to an improved process for the production of electrolytic zinc powder from zinc dross generated by steel galvanizing plant and the said process comprises using zinc dross as raw material acting as anode and sodium zincate as electrolyte and electrolysis is done passing current in the range between 5 to 15 Amps and voltage is the range of 3 to 5V for a period ranging between 2-6 hours and temperature 35-40oC and removing the zinc powder from cathode, washing and drying thereafter by known method to obtain pure zinc powder. The process is useful for producing electrolytic grade zinc powder used for paint, pigment, chemical and non-ferrous industry. Zinc deposition at cathode by this process is upto about 99% pure.
