- The invention concerns an apparatus for compacting tobacco, rids or the like, including lateral supporting elements which are arranged substantially parallel to and spaced apart from each other, wherein between the supporting elements are arranged two compacting elements for forming a receiving space for a tobacco cake or the like formed from tobacco, ribs or the like between the supporting elements and the compacting elements, wherein the compacting elements are mounted on the supporting elements. The known apparatuses have the drawback that the accessibility of the compacting elements particularly for maintenance, repair or cleaning purposes is limited and possible only with considerable efforts, and also there is a risk of tobacco escape. Due to the design according to the invention, namely, that a least one compacting element is mounted exclusively on one side, the accessibility to the compacting elements is substantially simplified. Furthermore, mounting on one side means that through-openings for mountings can be dispensed with, so that tobacco escape is effectively prevented.
