The present invention relates to a process of activating or regenerating a hydro-oxidation cattalyst comprising contacting a fresh hydro-oxidation catalyst or a deactivated hydro-oxidation catalyst with an ozone stream under process conditions sufficient to activate the fresh hydro-oxidation catalyst or regenerate,at least in part, the deactivated hydro-oxidation catalyst.
