The invention relates to a fish biopsy device. The device (1) comprises at least one hook having a tip portion (4), a bend (3) and a shank (2). The tip portion comprises a tube of a non-pliable material having a sharpened end (5) and the tube bore optionally includes a plurality of barbs. The tube has an aperture therein distal the sharpened end; and the bend is formed from a pliable material. The invention also relates to a method of obtaining biopsy material from a fish using the foregoing device (FIG.1)
