The emulsion composition of the present invention for making cap-sensitive emulsion explosive consists of a unique combination of ingredients consisting of oxidizing phase (agents) such as ammonium nitrate and sodium nitrate, fuel phase (agents) such as Low Sulful Heavy Stock (LSHS), paraffin oil, wax and Soya lecithin oil and emulsifier such as sorbitan mon-oleate. Thio-urea is used as a stabilizer to the product. The gassing agents used, a mixture of sodium nitrite and formaldehyde brings down the product in detonation density in the range of 1.05 to 1.20g/cm3. The emulsion explosive prepared from the is having velocity of detonation in the range of 4200 to 4430 m/s; explosion energy in the range of 598 to 610 kcal/kg, which is cap-sensitive in 50mm, 83mm diameter and larger. The product has excellent water resistant property and sustainable to high hydrostatic pressure head (5.5kg/cm2). The viscosity of the developed product is more than 2,80,000cps and sleepage period is more than four months. The composition of the present invention is safe in handling and non-hazardous during preparation.
