A system for sensing the state of a display includes a display, a sensor proximate to said display configured to detect electromagnetic radiation generated by said display, at least one signal processing means configured to process a signal received from said sensor, adn wherein said at least one signal processing means outputs a signal representative of the state of said display. The system may also includes a media device, in communication with said display, the state of which may be coordinated with the state of said display in response to the output of said at least one signal processing means.
