"A NASAL CAVITY DILATOR"

Application 1563/DELNP/2005 published 2007-01-19, filed 2005-04-19
An Adjustable nasal cavity dilation device (5) for urging the cavity towards an open condition, the device having: a flexible wall structure having a plurality of longitudinally extending elongated ribs (32) extending between a top frame (35) and a bottom frame (33) with the wall structure having variable geometry and being insertable within the cavity so as to rest within the nasal cavity; and an expansion means (41) comprising a connecting link between the top frame and the bottom frame so as to engage with the flexible wall structure by the link being used to force the top frame towards the bottom frame and outwardly deflect the elongated ribs such that the geometry of the device is adjusted by application of a force on the expansion means to cause the flexible wall structure to proceed from a first substantially undilated geometry to adopt a second dilated geometry; and a holding means including a locking means (58) for receiving a part of the link (44) and maintaining its position to maintain the relative positions of the top frame and the bottom frame and thereby maintain the flexible wall structure in a selected second dilated geometry wherein in the second dilating geometry the device is sized and positionable against the internal walls of the cavity dilating geometry the device is sized and positionable against the internal walls of the cavity opening the cavity to enable passage of air and/or fluid therethrough and to retain the device in its desired position within the nostril.
