The present invention relates to a novel enzymatic process for refining paper pulp comprising treating the said pulp with an enzyme composition. The enzyme composition is selected from cellulase, xylanase, pectinase or a mixture of these. This novel enzymatic process for treating paper pulp helps in refining the paper pulp to the desired SR degree.
