The needle assembly (10) includes a transparent or translucent housing (13) with a fluid inlet end (14), fluid outlet end (16) and a flashback chamber (22) therebetween. Substantially axially aligned inlet (26) and outlet (52) cannulas extend from the housing (12) and communicate with the chamber. The external end of the outlet cannula is covered by a sealable sleeve (61). Relative volumes of the cannulas, the chamber and the sleeve are selected to provide rapid reliable flashback indicative of venous entry.
