The present invention generally relates to a process for preparing the alkoxylated alkylamines and/or alky] ether amines. The process consists of three stages, and utilizes an alkali calalyst. The alkoxylated alkyl amines and alkoxylated alkyl ether amines prepared by the process possess the peaked distribution and contain less hazardous by-product.
