The contact arrangement for a vacuum interrupter chamber (1) has a pair of inner contact pieces (11, 12) which are in the form of RMF contact pieces, and a pair of outer contact pieces (21, 22) which are connected electrically in parallel with, and arranged physically closely adjacent to, the inner contact pieces (11, 12) . At least one of the inner contact pieces (11) is mounted such that it can move. The outer contact pieces (21, 22) are likewise in the form of RMF contact pieces. During a disconnection process, the arc which is struck can be commutated entirely or partially to the pair of outer contact pieces (21, 22) . The contact pieces (11, 12, 21, 22) are advantageously arranged coaxially with respect to one another. The outer contact pieces (21, 22) are advantageously in the form of pots or tubes.
