A method of forming a strip with upstanding projections comprising the steps of forming a thermoplastic resin into a base portion and one or more ridges extending from at least one side of the base portion, inducing orientation into at least the ridges, cutting the ridge portions into a plurality of cut portions, and subsequently heat treating at least a portion of the cut portions of the ridges at a temperature and time sufficient to reduce the thickness of the cut portions to form discrete projections.
