“ AN ALTERNATE ENERGY EFFICIENT PROCESS TO SINTER ABRASION RESISTANT ALUMINA BODY.”
Application 259/DEL/2004 published 2006-03-03, filed 2004-02-23
This disclosures sets forth a scheme for sintering of alumina body in a microwave field which is a energy efficient process compare to conventional process. An 85% commercial grade abrasion resistant alumina body have been studied with the help of microwave processing. The effect of sintering temperature on bulk density, water absorption bending strength (MOR), cold compressive strength, hardness etc. have been investigated. Further investigations have been performed on commercial product. The effect of sintering temperature on different size and shaped alumina body has been carried out and the density variation within a particular body has been emphasized. The studies indicate that densification required 20°C less temp. in a thin body compare to thick body. So, it is possible to sinter alumina product with good homogeneity at a pilot plant scale. The microwave sintering process requires 1/10th less time compare to conventional process; in turn save tremendous amount of energy and reduce cost and eventually can made the product competitive.
