A METHOD FOR DISAMBIGUATING AMBIGUOUS INPUT SEQUENCES ENTERED BY USER AND SYSTEM THEREFOR
Application 411/KOL/2004 published 2006-03-03, filed 2004-07-09
A system and method are disclosed, such as for disambiguating ambiguous input sequences entered by a user and for generating textual output in Chinese language. An input sequence is entered (1310, 1610)) into a user input device (52,1110, 1205,1410) comprising a plurality of input means (54, 1210) that are associated with a plurality of phonetic characters or strokes. An input sequence is generated each time an input is selected, which may have an ambiguous textual interpretation. A set of phonetic or stroke sequences are associated with each input sequence, and a set of ideographic character sequences are preferably associated with the phonetic sequences. The entered input sequence is compared (1320, 1620) to the phonetic or stroke sequences to find matching phonetic or stroke entries, and the matched phonetic or stroke entries are matched (1340) to the ideographic character sequences. One or more matched phonetic or stroke entries and/or matched ideographic characters are optionally displayed (1330,1350,1550). (FIG. - 14)
