The present invention relates to a process for the development of a packaging material having very low oxygen and water vapour permeability useful for packaging of food materials, particularly oil packaging, the said process involves developing a coating composition with calcined clay as the functional additive and coating paper boards to a thickness of 50-100 micron with the said coating composition from which suitable packing containers could be fabricated.
