This rotor is of the type comprising a plurality of magnetic driving elements (17) which are distributed around the axis of rotation of the rotor, each magnetic driving element (17) defining a magnetic pole of the rotor and having a substantially radial magnetic axis, each magnetic driving element comprising at least one permanent magnet (18). According to one aspect of the invention, at least one of the magnetic driving elements (17) comprises a plurality of separate permanent magnets (18), the magnets (18) of the or each magnetic driving element (17) being separated from each other along at least one separation surface which is substantially parallel with the magnetic axis of the or each magnetic driving element (17), and an insulator (55) which is interposed between the magnets (18) of the or each magnetic driving element (17) along the or each separation surface.
