Conventional cough syrups are mostly fortified with sedatives, anti-allergic and nerve soothing drugs producing drowsiness and hampering normal functioning of persons. They are also not conducive for persons being cardiac problems. The present invention aims at overcoming these drawbacks and provides a herbal cough syrup, comprising – Ingredients Amount in wt % (a) Ocimum sanctium (Tulsi) - 10 (b) Solanum indicum (Katra) - 15 (c) Alhagi camelorum (Javasa) - 15 (d) Cyperus scariosus (Nagarmotha) - 15 (e) Viola adorate (Banapsa) - 15 (f) Piper longum (pippal) - 40 (g) Sugar - 67 This invention also relates to a process for preparing the above composition in a syrup form.
