Treatment of constipation is usually done by administering laxative materials like Isabgol or senna, the former being of a mild nature and latter bringing about a drastic evacuation by forcing bowel movement. Use of higher saturated alkanes such as liquid paraffin, saturated alcohols and oils are also known to be adopted for relieving constipation and all these are temporary measures, effective only for a limited period of time. This invention provides a herbal composition effective against constipation comprising – Ingredients Amount in % wt Carsia angustifolia (Sanay patra) 30 Ptychotis Ajowan (AJwain) 10 Embelia Ribin 5 Black salt (Kala Namak) 15 Fregonella (Methi) 2.5 Terminaliea Chebula (Harad) 5 Terminalia Belaria (Behada) 5 Terminalia chebula 15 Foeniculum vudgare (Saunf) 10 Zingiber officinale (Sonth) 2.5 This invention also pertains to a process for preparing the aforesaid herbal composition in a powdered form which is storage stable and can be used conveniently, as and when necessary.
